The radical Islamist Taliban in Afghanistan has revealed the final resting place of its founder, Mullah Omar. Senior Taliban leaders attended a ceremony at the grave near the village of Omarso in Sabul province, Taliban spokesman Sabihullah Mujahid told AFP. Images released by authorities show men gathered around a simple grave, topped by a green metal cage.
The location of the tomb was kept secret for years because “the country was busy and there were many enemies,” Mujahid said. Only the closest family members knew of the location, the spokesman said. Now people can easily visit the resting place, he added. Mullah Omar died in 2013, but authorities kept his death a secret for several years.
