The Block 2022: Rachel slams viewers on Facebook after being criticized

Block runners-up Rachel and Ryan Carr were accused of “whining” about their $169,000 win, even though two of the other teams made no money at all.

But Rachel doesn’t take the criticism.

The makeup artist has spent the last 12 hours replying individually to trolls in a private Facebook group for fans of Channel Nine’s renovation show.

She was furious after seeing comments calling the couple “disgraceful” and “greedily spoiled brats” and insisted it couldn’t be further from the truth.

One person in the group The Block Banter AU commented: “Your attitude was disgraceful. She was greedy. $160,000+ for 12 weeks of work is excellent.’

Rachel hit back: “How was my attitude greedy and shameful?”

Another viewer expressed shock that Rachel was “not happy” to take home so much money, especially given that houses 3 and 4 were being auctioned off.

Rachel responded with a lengthy post that began, “I’m probably the best person to talk about my own feelings.

“I was shocked by everything that happened and knew a lot had to depend on us to ensure we got through before a bid went over the reserves. The negotiations then lasted at least 20 minutes.

“There were a lot of overwhelming emotions. Luck was definitely not there yet. But I was grateful that we got an end result and that it was the amount it was.

Rachel went on to say that having six friends who received very little or nothing would “take me a while before I’m happy,” referring to the other Block teams, two of whom have yet to sell their homes and one has only earned $20,000 in profit.

“I’m grateful for what we had. No one who doesn’t know me at all is going to take that away from me,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, Rachel’s fans rushed to her defense when someone wrote: “It would be a very strange situation to be in. When one team wins just $20,000 and the other wins over $1.5 million. Her house almost didn’t sell. I would be shocked and dismayed too.

“What a roller coaster ride.”

“You hit the nail on the head there!” Rachel replied.

Another supporter pointed out that the Carrs could have made more money from the work they lost in the three months they spent renovating and filming.

“$169,000 for 18 hours a day (a few days longer), seven days a week, no breaks, no days off for 90 days straight. Even the mines would pay better,” they said.

“I don’t think it’s worth it at all. He is a plumber and could have earned more at home.”

It mirrored what Ryan and Rachel told Chron Australia on auction day as they revealed the win “recovers what it took for us to be here”.

“We’re not spending the money. It goes right back into our savings,” Rachel said.

The couple finished second at the auction and sold their home for $4,250,000 while Omar and Oz walked away with a record profit of nearly $1.6 million.
