Chae Kyong An53, attacked Young during an argument about her divorce and finances, the woman told police.
From her Apple Watch, the woman called 911 for help and sent a notification to her emergency contacts. Thereafter, chae took her to the workshop and smashed her smartwatch with a hammer.
The woman had a domestic violence protection order against her ex-husband, police said.
The man took her tied up to a forest where he buried her alive in a shallow hole. “They put a heavy tree on it. After she was laid on the ground, she could hear her husband walking around the hole and earth being placed on her,” the court document said, according to NBC News.
Young she managed to gasp, twisting to avoid being choked by the earth until she managed to rip the tape off her lips. When she was finally able to escape, she sought help until she found a house where she was helped. The woman told police her ex-husband threatened her days before what happened.
The soldiers had spent hours searching for Young after answering her 911 call and issued a missing persons alert. The woman’s children told officers their mother and father were at the home but went to the store, according to the New York Post.
The man was held without bond and faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree assault, prosecutors said in an affidavit.
