Managua, 6th November (RHC) Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada (pictured) this Sunday highlighted the transparency of the municipal elections being held in the country.
After exercising his right to vote at a polling station in that capital, Moncada stressed the calm and security of the electoral process and affirmed that Nicaragua was experiencing an inclusive democracy.
Speaking to Prensa Latina, the head of Nicaraguan diplomacy stressed the importance of these elections, the fourth to be held since the government of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) came to power (2007).
“Although elections are important, in Nicaragua we also practice economic, educational, cultural, food security and inclusive democracy, that’s why we say the people are the president,” he said.
It also meant that in this Central American country, anyone over the age of 16 can exercise their right to vote without any form of exclusion.
There is complete freedom and people come to the polling stations calmly and safely to choose who they vote for, said the Chancellor, who was the first official to exercise the right to vote in these elections.
Similarly, he pointed to the guaranteed gender equality for these consultations, which is supported by the reforms of Ordinance 331 of the Electoral Code implemented in May 2021.
“We rejoice in these achievements of women, in these elections, 50 percent of the candidates are women and 50 percent men, and we are all joining forces and willingness to strengthen gender equality in Nicaragua, which holds the first places in the… Feldwelt occupies,” he emphasized.
As of 07:00 local time, the 3,000 106 voting centers were opened here, to which, according to the census, almost four million people have to go that day to elect 6,000 88 public offices, including mayors, deputy mayors and councilors of the country’s 153 municipalities.
The Supreme Electoral Council authorities emphasized the importance of voting, as citizens will have the opportunity to choose local government according to the advantages or existing problems in each area.
