Italy wants to hold flag states accountable
The actions of the new Italian government of Giorgia Meloni, which no longer wants to receive migrants rescued from the Mediterranean Sea and sees the ships’ flag states as a duty, are met with harsh criticism. “At this moment, a selective landing is taking place at the port of Catania. Shame!” wrote Aboubakar Soumahoro, deputy for the Greens and the Italian Left, who was in the port of Catania, on Twitter. About 30 activists, including some left-wing lawmakers, demanded that all rescued migrants be disembarked at the pier.
