Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Elio Rodríguez spoke out in favor of defending multilateralism at the meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter, which is meeting today in Iran.
During the meeting, the Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister, who heads the island’s delegation, called for respect for the freedom and independence of nations, one of the essential principles of the document that regulates international unity.
The meeting of the national coordinators of the Group of Friends in Defense of the United Nations Charter began this Saturday in Tehran in the presence of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdolahian.
The group was created in 2021 and includes 19 countries whose aim is to preserve, update and defend the credibility of the Charter through the coordination of joint initiatives to strengthen respect for the principles of unity and the values of dialogue. Tolerance, solidarity and peaceful coexistence of peoples.
Group member states include Algeria, Angola, Belarus, Bolivia, Cambodia, China, Cuba, North Korea, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Iran, Laos, Nicaragua, Palestine, Russia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Syria, Venezuela and Zimbabwe. . .
Another goal is to promote solidarity between countries to find collective, inclusive and effective solutions to the common challenges and threats of the current 21st century, including the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Cuban delegation at the meeting also includes Cuban Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran Alberto González Casals and Foreign Ministry official Pablo Berti Oliva.
