The Other Pitlick | Journal

MINNEAPOLIS | A visit to the country of gophers from the University of Minnesota draws attention. The campus decor is beautiful.

But on this day, October 31, 2022, it is difficult to distinguish the students walking near the huge football stadium or the ice rink, the 3M Arena in Mariucci, people dressed up as Harry Potter, Grinch and dinosaur giant wander the streets.

Once the door for the Gophers Arena has been found, we’ll go back to normal. There’s the Gophers players on the ice for a practice session led by Bob Motzko.

Among the skaters are Logan Cooley, the third overall pick in the Arizona Coyotes’ last draft, as well as Rhett Pitlick, a fifth-round pick by the Habs in 2019.

Rhett Pitlick is Rem’s younger brother, CH number 32.

“It’s special to me to wear the colors of the Gophers,” Rhett said in an interview with the Journal. This team is in our family blood. My mother studied here, my father [Lance] also, just like my brother, Rem. I continue the tradition. It was a logical decision for me to come and play here. I haven’t watched any other shows. »

More offensive and a stick

In his second season with the Gophers, Rhett is looking to establish himself as an important part of his team. Author of a season of 18 points, including five goals, in 30 games last season, he started short of expectations with six points (1 goal, 5 assists) in 10 games.

“I want to improve offensively,” he replied. I feel that is the case. I gained confidence this year. But I don’t just want to be a more threatening attacker, I also want to be responsible defensively. »

On October 22, Pitlick scored his first goal of the season against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. He celebrated by throwing his stick into the stands at the 3M Arena. A gesture that did not go unnoticed. He took a 10-minute penalty and the visitors eventually won 5-4 in overtime.
