Lamborghini navigates well through the rough seas of the economy.

The exotic automaker reported Monday that it had sold 7,430 vehicles this year through September, an 8% increase from the same period in 2021.

This included 4,834 Urus SUVs, its best-selling product, and 15 $500,000 Aventador Ultimae supercars, which were rebuilt after the originals were lost on the cargo ship Felicity Ace, which sank in the Atlantic following a fire in March .

Lamborghini had to restart the assembly line for the phased-out Aventador to fulfill the orders.

There’s a lot more to where that came from.

“We’ve already been waiting 18 to 19 months for a new car,” said Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann in an exclusive interview with FOX Business.

“We sell more cars than we can produce.”

Winkelmann said the company expects to finish the year strong and then brace for a few years of stable sales while it refreshes its three-model lineup through 2025. That process begins with a replacement for the Aventador, due out next year as a hybridized V12-powered two-seater, for which Lamborghini already has 3,000 orders.

Between those and the rest of the pre-sold cars, Winkelmann said the brand is well-positioned to weather a downturn in the economy, should it happen.

“It allows us to carry the Lamborghini brand from one bank to the other,” he said.

Lamborghini’s profit per car has also increased as more customers request bespoke models from its customized programs.

“They want more and more cars that are unlike any other car,” said Winkelmann.
