A man in his 30s is in critical condition in hospital after being stabbed to death in downtown Montreal on Sunday night.
Just before 10 p.m., police were called to 911 over a stabbing at the intersection of Clark and de la Gauchetière streets in Chinatown.
According to initial findings, there was an argument between several people and the victim before he was stabbed at least once in the upper body.
The victim was taken to a hospital and his life is in danger, said officer Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesman for the Montreal Police.
After police searches, a 31-year-old suspect was arrested near the scene and was due to be visited by SPVM investigators.
The scene was protected by a security perimeter for investigators and forensic identification technicians tasked with determining the circumstances of this armed attack.
The rue de la Gauchetière was closed between the rue Clark and the rue Saint-Dominique and the boulevard Saint-Laurent between the avenue Viger and the boulevard René-Lévesque.
