Strictly speaking, Tony Adams talks ‘fight’ to Katya Jones and says he ‘want to have a good time’

Tony Adams has addressed the apparent “heated argument” he had with partner Katya Jones in the closing moments of Saturday’s Strictly Come Dancing live show.

The former footballer, 56, made a series of mistakes during his salsa earlier in the night and ended up at the bottom of the rankings, while Katya, 33, admitted she yelled at him afterwards.

Tony was then seen talking very animatedly to Katya as Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly finished the show, leading to rumors of a “heated argument” between the pair.

Reflecting on the awkward moment while appearing with Katya on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain, Tony admitted his professional partner can be “a bit overly critical”.

Admitting he “just wants to have a good time” at the BBC dance competition, he said they’re trying to strike a balance between error correction and having fun.

However, he went on to praise “genius” Katya for developing her choreography each week before his partner brushed off “feud” rumors, joking that they “don’t like each other.”

When asked by Susanna Reid and Ed Balls about the reported argument, Tony quipped, “We fight all the time, don’t we?”

To which Katya joked: “We just don’t like each other at all, we don’t get along!”

But Tony continued candidly: “We’ve had two months together now. She trained me and the routines she uses are amazing.

“And sometimes when I’m missing a step, sometimes she’s a bit overly critical and I just want to have a good time too.

“So I think it’s a balance between maybe allowing mistakes and enjoying myself a bit sometimes… I’m not an expert on this.”

Speaking further about the challenges of performing on Strictly, Tony admitted he “cried” in the first month and was “physically, emotionally and mentally devastated” by the “brutal” nature of constantly learning new moves.

On Saturday, Tony and Katya hoped to improve on their highest scores of the past week with a salsa to Pitbull’s “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho).”

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be as the judges made some mixed comments about the performance and they ended up at the bottom of the rankings.

Craig Revel Horwood simply told the pair, “It didn’t work out tonight – it’s a shame,” while Motsi Mabuse struggled to elicit a compliment as she uttered, “You’ve tried so hard… Things go on in life… Pick up you crown, get out there and salsa it out!’

While Shirley Ballas tried to stay positive by praising Tony’s rotations and “fearless” lifts, she added that it was an “absolute disgrace” that he acted on the wrong foot and made “too many mistakes”.

Following Claudia, Tony said: “I was too busy having fun!

“The crowd was packed and it was great, then I looked down there and I was like, ‘Oh sugar, what’s going on?’
