The crime took place this Sunday morning (April 17, 2022) between the communities of Gros-Morne, Robert and Lamentin. A gunman attacked several motorists on his journey before being arrested by police. The police are looking for victims.
It was around 6 a.m. on this Sunday morning (April 17, 2022) when the gendarmes were called to the town of Gros-Morne. According to initial information, a man shot into the air with a pistol.
The man then left Gros-Morne for Lamentin, passed Robert and then returned to his starting point.
On his way, he stopped motorists, attacked several people with his gun and stole vehicles he abandoned while driving.
Eventually, he was arrested around 8:30 a.m. in the garage of a house where he had taken refuge.
The house turned out to be the accommodation of a gendarme. This arrested him after he had brought his family to safety.
He was taken into custody. The 23-year-old has a criminal record.
The man who allegedly shot in the direction of the gendarmes and motorists was believed to be a very serious threat.
The gendarmerie forces have set up “an operational search system”. In this way, the GIGN, the helicopter, the cinema crews and the Trinité intervention platoon are mobilized by order of the commander of the Trinité company.
About forty gendarmes were involved in this listening device in a specific search area.
According to the fire service, two people (a man in his 50s and an 83-year-old woman) were treated and taken to Martinique University Hospital. They had been attacked in Gros Morne and received “a rifle butt hit to the head”.
The gendarmerie are continuing their investigations and looking for other possible victims.
