Kamala Harris lets Minerva vote if US Senate election ties

Last Tuesday (8), the midterm elections began in the USA. The results of the polls define the political landscape for the next two years and directly affect the administrations of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

However, Kamala will play a crucial role if the Senate ends without a majority of seats for either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party as she holds the Minerva vote.

Joe Biden’s party needs two more victories to maintain dominance in the US Senate, while Republicans need to elect three more congressmen.

Currently, control of the 100 seats in the House of Representatives, currently split between 5050 between Republicans and Democrats, rests with three states: Nevada, Arizona and Georgia.

While the Nevada vote count shows Republican Adam Laxalt’s victory, Arizona is expected to vote for Democrat Mark Kelly.

The result in Georgia will be decisive in the dispute and will take almost a month to define. According to local legislation, the candidate must win more than 50% of the votes, otherwise a second round must be held, a situation that occurs for the second time in a row.

Georgia voters will go to the polls again December 6 to decide the race between incumbent Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker, a former soccer star.

Democrats had hoped to win seats from retiring Republican senators in North Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Only in the latter have they succeeded, thanks to the victory of Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman, who suffered a stroke during the campaign, over Trumpbacked TV celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz.

Senate control would give Republicans the power to block Biden’s nominees for administrative and judicial posts.

Republicans are close to a majority in the House of Representatives. The party won at least 210 seats in the House of Representatives, but 33 races are yet to be decided.
