In Sweden, counter-protesters revolted again on Easter Sunday after a meeting of the far-right group Stram Kurs (Strammer’s Course). In the southern city of Norrköpping, police said they fired warning shots. Three people were injured, broadcaster SVT reported in the evening. There were also riots in Linköping, with over 25 arrests in total. Police said they themselves were attacked.
In Malmö, in the south of the country, according to police, a bus, a car and garbage cans were set on fire overnight. Several reports of vandalism were reported.
The protests were sparked by a meeting of the anti-Islamic and anti-immigrant group Stram Kurs led by politician and lawyer Rasmus Paludan. This is currently moving through several Swedish cities and holding meetings there, in which one Quran must be burned at a time.
There have already been clashes between police and counter-demonstrators in several Swedish cities.
Stones thrown at the police
The Stram Kurs rally on Saturday was moved from the originally planned Landskrona to a parking lot in the nearby city of Malmo to prevent riots.
However, protests erupted in various parts of the city in southern Sweden, with protesters also throwing stones at police. The officers were not injured, according to a police spokesman. A bus caught fire after strangers threw a flaming object onto the bus. Passengers managed to get off the bus in time.
