Argentines try to break the record for the largest candy bar

Buenos Aires, April 17th (RHC) Culinary artists from Argentina will attempt to complete the largest handmade chocolate bar in the world, celebrating Easter or Resurrection Sunday, together with thousands of curious people and lovers of this exquisite product.

For about 15 days, chef David Veltri and pastry chef Lorena Meana worked alongside students from the Malvinas Argentinas School of Gastronomy to exceed the goal set in Armenia in 2010.

This year, the Grand Candy company presented a tablet 5.6 meters long and 2.75 meters wide, which earned it a place among the Guinness World Records.

Our bar will exceed six meters by 4.50 meters and will have handcrafted details made up of rabbits found in a factory. According to the design, the little animals make chocolates and put them on a shelf representing Malvinas, explained Veltri Prensa Latina.

According to the renowned chef, the idea was born to celebrate the end of Holy Week (a Christian tradition commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus) and to share a culinary work of art with the community.

We wanted to make a giant Easter egg but time was short so we decided to make a chalkboard. People can visit us and this afternoon we will break the pole so everyone can eat a piece, he said.

For two weeks, the creators worked tirelessly in a tent near the Municipal Palace of Malvinas Argentinas, a city in the province of Buenos Aires.

Our biggest challenge was to melt more than two tons of chocolate in that time and make solid blocks 60 by 40 centimeters. Those panels were put in a fridge to harden, and then we mounted them on a metal frame, Veltri said.

Each block weighs 15 kilograms and is assembled on an iron frame. The Easter-evocative details decorating the table are made of white and semi-sweet chocolate. Some of them will be painted, he added.

The day before the project was visited by the pastry chef Mauricio Asta and today the final stages are assisted by the chef Jimena Monteverde.
The artists expect the participation of thousands of people at the final act, which will be followed by a tasting and a concert by the group Los Nocheros.
Throughout the day, children can enjoy various activities organized for them at the facility while they wait for the promised giant chocolate. (Source: PL)
