A Florida man might be Marvel’s biggest fan.
Ramiro Alanis just reclaimed a Guinness World Record after resisting bathroom breaks long enough to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home 292 times.
He previously broke the record for “most attended theatrical productions of the same film” in 2019 after watching “Avengers: Endgame” 191 times. However, according to a Guinness World Records press release in 2021, Arnaud Klein canceled Alani’s performance by watching “Kaamelott: First Rate” 204 times.
Regaining the title wasn’t easy.
The terms of the protocol stated that “the film must be viewed independently of any other activity,” meaning Alanis had to hold his urine as he wasn’t allowed to take bathroom breaks, take short naps, or even check his phone while he was doing the watched movie movie.
When Alanis first set the record in 2019, 11 of his sessions were disqualified due to the bathroom breaks he was taking.
The determined Florida man had to endure 720 hours (30 days) of “No Way Home” between December 16, 2021 and March 15, 2022 to secure the crown.
To achieve this, Alanis completed five consecutive screenings each day for the first few weeks of his record attempt. Most impressively, he matched the record while juggling family and professional commitments.
The film’s long nightly screenings left Alanis suffering from a headache, which the Marvel fan said was the most challenging part of the record attempt.
Landing the record didn’t come cheap either. Alanis estimates that he spent a total of around $3,400 on movie tickets in the three months it took to set the record.
According to Guinness, he credits his late grandmother Juany for his dedication to earning the honor. “She was my #1 supporter and I want to remain the record holder,” he said in the press release.
Spider-Man: No Way Home hit theaters on December 17, 2021 and became the third-biggest film of all time at the domestic box office after unseating the smash hit Avatar.
Before Alanis first broke the record, he was held by Australia’s Joanne Connor, who watched “Bohemian Rhapsody” 108 times in early 2019.
To anyone thinking of beating Alanis’ record, he wants you to “think twice before you try,” he said.
