Awkward moment Karl Stefanovic asks Allison Langdon where she’s been for the past week

Allison Langdon was back on the Today Show on Monday.

And her week-long absence seemed a little mysterious, as her co-host Karl Stefanovic bestowed Allison with the third degree.

“We missed you. How did the shooting go?’ the 48-year-old asked and Allison fiddled with her answer.

She mentioned both filming and spending time with her kids, making it unclear which of the two she took the week off for.

“The shooting was fine. It went well and the kids were good. I reconciled them,” the TV star replied.

“I thought you were filming?” Karl shot back and Allison quickly said, “I shot for 60 minutes.”

“I thought you were filming with the children,” Karl continued.

“I forgot how hard it can be. It’s nice to be back,” Allison quipped before abruptly changing the subject.

‘Tim and I are a couple getting dressed!’ she said, referring to Today Show’s weatherman Tim Davies, before moving on to the next segment.

The mysterious absence comes after Allison emerged as the favorite in Channel Nine’s hunt for a new presenter for A Current Affair.

The Today presenter’s ‘terrible’ hydrofoiling accident may have played a role in her plum position.

The job could be something of a consolation prize, a new report in The Daily Telegraph claimed on Sunday.

“Nine may be inclined to mitigate future compensation payments to Langdon by giving her ACA,” the newspaper claimed.

Last year, Allison revealed she’s still in pain almost four months after sustaining a serious leg injury in a hydrofoiling accident.

The Nine presenter, 43, opened up about her “horrible” injuries to Novas Fitzy and Wippa at the time.

When asked how her knee feels now, she said, “It’s okay, it still hurts a lot.”

She added: “I broke my leg, I did the kneecap, I did the ligaments. I shattered the kneecap, broke the leg, injured the cruciate ligament, the meniscus… Broken tibia.’

“It was pretty awful,” she added, noting that her knee had touched the hydrofoil when she fell during the water sports segment.

Allison then joked that the worst part of the accident — which happened while the Today show was filming in the Gold Coast on Feb. 4, 2021 — was her failure to win the race against her co-host Karl Stefanovic.

Allison went on to reveal that she recently visited her doctor, who told her she was still in the recovery process.

She would not fully recover in the next 12 months, she said.

After the accident in February, Allison was flown from the Gold Coast to Sydney where she underwent knee surgery.

Last week, after much speculation, television sources said that Langdon – who co-hosted Today for two years – is now the likely replacement for Tracy Grimshaw, who recently announced her retirement after 17 years.

Nine is understood to be ready to finally announce the hosting move, which comes after weeks of on-air testing and speculation over the ACA role, widely regarded as one of the best jobs in Australian broadcasting.

Among those also considered was Nine News political reporter Chris O’Keefe, who hosted a test episode in October.

However, Langdon remains the favourite, although her departure would open up the role of co-host on Today – a show that continues to struggle in its ongoing battle against the all-conquering Sunrise.

It is ACA’s first new host since Tracy Grimshaw replaced Ray Martin in 2006. Grimshaw left ACA in September.

Langdon could add her name to an illustrious list that includes broadcast titans like Martin, Mike Munro and Jana Wendt.

Interestingly, Langdon’s husband Mike Willesee Jr. is the son of the late former ACA great Mike Willesee, who hosted the first three seasons of the program and later five more.

Notoriously one of the highest-paying gigs on Australian television – Grimshaw’s take-home gig is said to have swollen to $700,000 a year by the time of her retirement – the ACA hosting gig is also coveted for its relatively short work week.
