Kyiv claims Russia damaged a key power plant

During last week’s massive airstrikes, the Russian army severely damaged one of Ukrenergo’s crucial facilities, affecting the energy supply of several provinces where the situation remains difficult, the company reported on its Telegram channel on Monday.

The company did not specify which plant, but said there are blackouts in the Ukrainian capital, as well as in the provinces of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Sumi, Kharkov and Poltava.

No power system has suffered as much damage as Ukraine’s power industry since Oct. 10, when Russian aviation and missile technology launched massive airstrikes on Ukrainian command, power and communications facilities, Ukrenergo said.

Planned and emergency power outages have been going on in Kyiv and several provinces of the Slavic nation for days as a result of the damage sustained to energy infrastructure in massive rocket and drone attacks on November 10, 11, 17, 22 and 2 .

The first of these was launched by Russia in response to the terrorist attack that destroyed a section of the Kerch Strait Bridge in Crimea and left four dead.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy estimated that the attacks severely damaged 40 percent of the country’s energy system.
