In an interview with Universa earlier this year, the Globo actor’s widow recalled the day she found out about her husband’s death. “When I heard Mários ‘Hello’ (Canivelo, spokesman for Domingos), my whole body froze,” she began. At that time, all that was known was that the actor was missing.

“The first thing I thought about was having my kids by my side. I asked to pick up the two minors from school to avoid hearing any comments on the way out. Leo (eldest son, then 13 years old) was home alone, with internet access. I walked in, went straight to his room and explained, “Dad disappeared into the river, but he can swim, he’s probably waiting for rescue somewhere”. I told him what I wanted to believe. Up to the last millisecond I thought about all sorts of situations to think it would have been just a scare in the end,” she then commented.

But in the late afternoon the news came that the body had been found lifeless. “I answered the phone, it was Monica (Albuquerque, Globo producer). The house was full of people: circus friends, closest neighbors, an Auê. When she said “Lu” I felt “You don’t have good news for me, do you?”. And she said no. I listened very calmly, thanked me, hung up and cried a lot. The little boys were in the room (Antonio, then eight years old, and Dante, five years old),” said Luciana Lima.

One of the hardest parts for her was telling her children about the loss of her husband. “He asked, ‘Did dad make it, mom?’ And I said no. Antonio was the first to speak: “Is papa dead?”. From then on we stuck together. We joined our four bodies and became even more united. I spent weeks in shock. It was a very surreal thing, very sudden, it took everyone by surprise. There were moments when I cried a lot, in despair, my whole body melted, I ran out of strength, I could no longer feel my body. Then I stood up and thought, “Okay. Come on”.
