Xi Jinping will attend the G20 summit, which begins tomorrow, and will meet with US President Joe Biden in the next few hours, among other bilateral meetings.

The Chinese leader stepped off his plane at Ngurah Rai International Airport around 3:15 p.m. local time (7:15 GMT) on Monday, on the eve of the summit that will bring together the leaders of the top twenty global economies.

Putin will not travel to Bali for the G20 summit. Xi’s attendance at the G20 marks his personal return to an international forum after a nearly two-year absence due to the pandemic, following his attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit last September, where he met, among others, his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

G20 Summit in Indonesia | Joe Biden and Joko Widodo

US President Joe Biden speaks with his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo in Bali on November 14, 2022.

The Chinese president is scheduled to meet with Biden this Monday in what will be the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since the Democratic politician arrived at the White House in January last year.

This bilateral meeting comes at a time of tensions exacerbated by their differences over the war in Ukraine or, more recently, the cross-strait crisis and Washington-imposed restrictions on semiconductor manufacturing equipment exports to China.
