Portal All eyes of the political world are on Arizona and Nevada this early Friday (11), where hundreds of thousands of untold votes were key to controlling the US Senate three days after Americans voted in the midterm elections.

Both Democrats and Republicans can win a majority in the Senate. However, a split would turn the December 6 Senate runoff into a crucial battle.

Republicans are slowly approaching stripping control of the House from Biden’s Democrats, which would effectively give them veto power over his legislative agenda and allow them to launch a series of investigations into his administration.

Republicans have secured at least 211 of the 218 House seats they need to win the majority, Edison Research predicted Thursday, while Democrats won 197. That left 27 races to decide, including several close races.

The outcome of the Arizona and Nevada Senate races, in which Democrats attempted to fend off Republican opponents, may not be known for days. Officials in both states said it could take until next week to complete the count of the uncounted mailin ballots.

Tuesday’s election results fell far short of the broad “red wave” that Republicans had been expecting, despite Biden’s anemic approval ratings and voters’ deep frustration at nearunprecedented inflation.

Some of Trump’s most prominent candidates have lost key races, undermining his status as Republican incumbent and leading several Republicans to blame him for the party’s disappointing performance.

The result could increase the chances that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who defeated his Democratic opponent on Tuesday, will challenge Trump for the 2024 presidential nomination.
