(CNN) – A Ukraine-based humanitarian kitchen linked to celebrity chef José Andrés was destroyed by a Russian missile in the northeastern city of Kharkiv, according to the charity that runs it.
One of World Central Kitchen’s (WCK) restaurant partners was struck Saturday, the nonprofit kitchen’s CEO Nate Mook confirmed News on Twitter. He said four employees were injured in the blast.
“An update I hoped I never had to do. I’m at a @WCKitchen restaurant in Kharkiv where I met up with their amazing team less than 24 hours ago,” Mook wrote alongside a video of himself burning out cars and badly damaged buildings.
“That’s the reality here – cooking is a heroic act of bravery.”

The northeastern city of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has been regularly heavily bombed since Russia began its invasion more than six weeks ago.
On Sunday, Mook shared an update from Kharkiv, indicating the injured staff were “doing well” and the restaurant team was in the process of moving “all food and undamaged equipment” to another location in the city.
“The work doesn’t stop,” he added.
Andrés has also taken to Twitter to address the strike and provide an update on the wellbeing of the restaurant’s staff.
Founded by Andrés in 2010, WCK, an organization focused on providing meals in disaster and war zones, has been providing food to Ukrainians since the conflict began, with units in around 30 cities across the country, according to the official website.
On April 15, Andrés shared a graphic showing the scope of the organization’s activities in Ukraine, including establishing over 300 restaurants and delivering over 300,000 meals a day.
“We believe that sometimes a plate of food is the beginning of a better morning,” says Andrés in a video posted on Sunday.
