  • The struggle for control of the city Mariupol continues, stoking fears of heavy human casualties on the Ukrainian side. On Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Moscow of wanting to “destroy other cities” in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts and of wanting to “destroy” Donbass. Everything will be done to defend this region, he promised. A Mariupol police officer, Mykhailo Verchynin, assures that “many civilians, including women, children, babies and the elderly” are holed up in the Azovstal complex.
  • Russia also continued its bombing, Saturday and Sunday, with targets in eight Ukrainian regions. One person was killed and several others injured in Kiev, and an armaments factory was attacked in Darnytsky district. In Kharkiv (northeast), Ukraine’s second largest city, at least five people died and twenty others were injured in a series of Russian strikes on Sunday, regional governor Oleh Synehoubov noted.
  • No humanitarian corridor on Sunday. Ukrainian authorities on Sunday announced the suspension of humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians from eastern Ukraine due to a failure to reach an agreement with the Russian army to cease fire. This morning we did not manage to negotiate a ceasefire with the occupying forces on the evacuation routes. For this reason, unfortunately, we will not open humanitarian corridors today, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk told Telegram.
  • The President of Ukraine said so in an interview with CNN aired on Sunday invited Emmanuel Macron to visit Ukraine to see with my own eyes the Russian armed forces committing “genocide,” a term the French president has so far refused to use.
  • This was announced by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Saturday 40,200 additional people fled Ukraine within 24 hours. In total, 4,836,445 people have fled the country since Russia began invading Ukraine on February 24.
