Shanghai has been in a tough corona lockdown for almost a month now. However, the population’s dissatisfaction with this measure has increased significantly recently, also because notable successes in the fight against the virus have been achieved recently – on the contrary.
The population is fed up with zero Covid
“People are dying,” wrote a resident of the metropolis on a piece of cloth and hung it from a tree, causing a stir. The population is now defending itself strongly against the Corona measures and is speaking out against the authorities.
Anyone who tests positive for the virus in Shanghai must leave their home. Unlike last time, when infected people still suffered from draconian exit restrictions and sometimes had to stay in their homes without food, now quarantine rooms have been created.
The situation in these neighborhoods is dire. Thousands of beds lined up, bright lights that stay on all night, no showers, dirty bathrooms. Shanghai’s foreign residents are now afraid of ending up in these shelters.
The international community is therefore urging China to introduce easing. “Everyone is surprised that this is happening in China’s most progressive city,” says Jörg Wuttke, president of the European Chamber of Commerce. Trade associations like the Chamber of the EU as standard.
The food packages that corona-positive people receive from the city hall also cause horror. Some of the food is already rotten or has been treated with chemicals that make it inedible.
