Meghan Markle slammed for trying to use a British accent on her podcast: ‘Really pathetic’

What’s up with Meghan Markle’s accent?

The 41-year-old estranged royal family apparently tried to use a British accent in the latest Archetypes podcast episode starring actress Jameela Jamil, 36, who hails from across the pond.

“Are you okay, babe? Hello?” the She-Hulk star asked, to which the former Deal or No Deal briefcase girl seemed to reply, “Ello. Hello my friend. How are you?”

The “Ello” comes as Jamil offers her greeting, although it could be an editing error. According to a transcript of the episode, Jamil is said to say “Hello” and then laugh while Markle replies, “Hello my friend. How are you?”

Whoever’s to blame, California-born Markle is taking the heat for the four-letter word on social media and in the press.

“Are you kidding about the British accent now? Please Meghan just shut up.” one person tweeted.

“Really pathetic,” joked another, according to the Express, while another hater declared of the podcast couple, “They’re both as ‘fake’ as they come!!!”

“Is Meghan trying to speak a British accent again?” asked another user, the Chron reported.

This isn’t the first time Markle has been accused of trying out a British accent. A clip taken by fans during a trip with Queen Elizabeth II in 2018 went viral as her speech seemed to sound a little different than normal.

“There’s this big discussion all over Twitter,” a CNN reporter explained at the time. “It’s not actually British for someone in Britain. It is not. But it’s on the way. I think she’s obviously slowing down her speech and being more articulate while royals are trying to get people to understand her.”

Fittingly, during Tuesday’s episode, Jamil opened up about how unfair it is that Markle is being ridiculed for everything she does.

“It’s an unfathomable amount of s— you take, Meghan. I can’t believe it,” she said. “And I stood up for you for years before I ever met you because I was so outraged by the perversion of this very normal, very kind, very civilized woman. This demonization just shows how scared they are of you.”

“I’m so sorry you had to endure that,” Jamil continued. “It exposed to us the intense unkindness, bigotry and misogyny of our media. And I think and I hope and I trust that the tide is turning because so many of us are fighting back.”

In other Archetypes news, author Allison Yarrow has sparked speculation that she never actually spoke to the Duchess for her interview.
