Wawa, a popular convenience store chain, is looking for its first Alabama location in this city

Popular convenience store chain Wawa may be coming to Alabama soon.

In a press release, the Pennsylvania-based chain said it plans to expand its presence into the “Florida Panhandle Region, along with the adjacent markets of Pensacola, Panama City and Tallahassee, along with Mobile, Alabama.”

Current plans call for Wawa to open 40 stores in these markets, with the first locations expected to open in 2024.

“Over the years we have been pleased to hear from so many people from so many areas who are interested in having a Wawa closer to where they live. We couldn’t be more excited to bring Wawa’s unique brand and offering to these new markets in the near future,” said John Poplawski, Wawa’s vice president of real estate. “We look forward to expanding beyond our current reach and serving these new markets with our quality fresh food and beverages and, as always, our deep commitment to the communities in which we operate.”

No specific locations have been announced.

Wawa currently operates stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, DC. It is best known for its freshly made sandwiches, custom salads and rice bowls, and fuel and grocery items.
