Israeli forces attacked the Gaza Strip Tuesday morning (19, Monday night, 18, in Brasilia) in retaliation for shooting down a rocket fired at Israel from the Palestinian territories, witnesses and the Islamist movement Hamas said.

According to witnesses, Israeli planes attacked the southern Gaza Strip. Hamas’ armed wing said it opened fire on Israeli planes.
“Congratulations to the resistance fighters who faced the warplanes with our air defenses,” Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said in a statement.

Qassem said Israeli troops attacked empty places.

Witnesses and security sources in the Gaza Strip reported no casualties in the attacks.
The Israeli military spoke of retaliation
Israel attacked after a missile was fired at Israel from that Palestinian territory and intercepted by the Iron Dome antimissile defense system.
“In retaliation for this attack, Israeli army fighter jets attacked weapons factories belonging to the terrorist organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip,” the Israeli military said.
Over the weekend there was a wave of violence on the esplanade of the mosques (both inside and outside the site), Islam’s third holy site and Judaism’s first holy site, injuring more than 170 people, most of them Palestinians .
