Lisbon, 18th November (EFE).- The President-elect of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, said this Friday that after 20 years since his last victory, it is time for the “Canarinha” to once again declare himself world champion.
Lula da Silva expressed his hope that Brazil will win the World Cup during a visit to Lisbon, speaking to reporters alongside Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa.
“Some important teams aren’t doing well,” said Lula, who also recalled that Cristiano Ronaldo “isn’t playing like he did 15 years ago.”
“I’ve never had so much hope for Brazil to win the World Cup,” said the president-elect, who said if Portugal won “I’d be very happy too.”
When asked about the eligibility of the country hosting the championship, Lula da Silva said he did not know “the criteria by which Qatar was selected”.
“It’s not up to us to judge those criteria, (the selections) are already there,” he said. EFE
