There’s a high tension thriller on Netflix tonight.

Looking for a good Italian thriller on Netflix? Here is a well made film full of great performances starring a perfect Riccardo Scamarcio.

In keeping with the high-tension and scary cinema of the 2000s, with dark but believable settings in rural Italian areas, there is a thriller film on Netflix that follows the ancient spiritism of the past associated with the areas of southern Italy. All shot in an “Italian Horror” version, with intense interpretations and scenarios that evoke ancient memories of a time that no longer exists but is nonetheless relevant.

For those who love the genre, it’s on the streaming platform “The connection‘, a film that was released in 2020 but continues to be a talking point due to the very positive reviews it received. Directed by A Dominic DeFeudis at its debut but highly acclaimed for this production that follows a very famous “Paranormal Activity” and the best horror tradition of the 2000s.

Loosely inspired by the book The South and the Magic by Ernesto de Martino, this film manages to create a crescendo of suspense that induces the right amount of angst to be expected from a film of this nature. There’s no shortage of uneasiness and fear, largely due to the good photography and good acting.

In the role of the male lead, we have Riccardo Scamarcio, perfect for a film about the occult of the Apulian tradition, given its origins. With him My masterboy Giulia Patrignani, Mariella Lo Sardo, Federica Rossellini, Raffaella D’Avella and Sebastiano Filocamo.

While the rest of the cast, which is fairly unknown to the general public, cannot be clearly and unequivocally related to other imaginaries, the role of Scamarcio is interesting and generally more associated with an image close to comedy, detective stories and drama . And he (who is also a producer) also does a great job of supporting the more pure horror scenes, the make-up and the creepy thread.

The story begins with a movement along the peninsula, but not from south to north, but on the contrary, with a descent into a culture made up of pagan rites, mystical cults and ancient curses linked to the rural areas of southern Italy. A tale, then, that is nothing more than a classic revisited in the light of southern folk spiritualism.
