Vietnam established a steering committee for the implementation of the COP26 commitments, adopted the National Climate Change Strategy and updated the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), explained Pham Van Tan.
In addition, the deputy director of the Department of Climate Change added said portfolios, approved plans to reduce methane emissions, and specified the goals and tasks to meet climate commitments.
According to Van Tan, quoted by the VNA news agency, many international partners, notably the United Kingdom, the United States, the European Union and the Group of the World’s Most Developed Countries (G7), believe that Vietnam has quickly turned policies and plans into actions implement.
In the case of the NDC 2022, he gave an example that the country has increased its commitment according to the roadmap to reach “zero” net emissions by 2050.
While attending COP27 here, Vietnam’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha held working meetings with international financial organizations and institutions to discuss the country’s efforts and opportunities for cooperation, Van Tan recalled.
Hong Ha also raised initiatives to use most of the resources mobilized through the Paris Agreement mechanisms to support technology transfer and the implementation of other pilot projects in developing countries.
In his view, this is a prerequisite for unlocking the social capital aimed at reducing emissions and adapting to climate change.
On the other hand, the minister pointed out that Vietnam must make great efforts with its own resources and the support of the international community to achieve climate commitments.
