Billionaire Elon Musk said anyone could get $100,000 to go to Mars as long as they could work and save. The richest man in the world also emphasized that he does not spend his billions on private consumption and, despite his wealth, does not have his own home.

“When you say what it takes to get enough people and cargo to Mars to build a selfsustaining city, you have to think of the group of people who want to leave. A small percentage will want it, be able to afford it, or get sponsorship. be a million people. I think governments will pay for it and people will be able to borrow,” he said during an interview with TED conference leader Chris Anderson published this Monday (18).
“If the cost of moving to Mars, for the sake of argument, is $100,000, then I think you know anybody can work and save and eventually have the money and be able to go to Mars when he wants. for those who want to go,” he adds.

It’s not the first time Musk has said the pass will be viable. In 2019 he posted on Twitter about the price of the trip. It is expected that by 2050 about a thousand spacecraft, each carrying 100 people (a total of 1 million travelers) will be sent to the “Red Planet” via SpaceX.

“I’m confident that moving to Mars (roundtrip is free) will one day cost less than $500,000 and maybe even less than $100,000. Low enough that most people in advanced economies can sell their homes on Earth and move to Mars if they choose.”
The billionaire also pointed out that his company is working to build a fuel facility on Mars so that spacecraft can return home.

The billionaire, who topped the annual ranking of the world’s richest people for the first time this year, drew attention to himself by saying he doesn’t have a house of his own and lives in friends’ properties.

The survey conducted by the American magazine “Forbes” on April 5 put Musk’s fortune at 219 billion US dollars (around 1 trillion R$). The publication included values up to March 11 and therefore did not take into account the fact that the billionaire had acquired a 9.2 percent stake in Twitter.
Compared to Forbes’ 2021 ranking, Musk earned $68 billion (R$316 billion). According to the magazine, the result was due to a 33% increase in Tesla’s share price.
