Hans Zimmer is one of Hollywood’s most renowned film music composers. We owe him the music for the films Dune (by Denis Villeneuve), Gladiator, The Lion King, Inception, Dunkirk and the Batman trilogy by Christopher Nolan. He twice won the Oscar for Best Soundtrack, earlier this year for Dune and in 1995 for The Lion King.

To conceive the music for The Night When Laurier Gaudreault Awakened, Zimmer teamed up with David Fleming, another renowned composer with whom he works regularly.

In an interview with the Journal, Xavier Dolan states that another composer was originally supposed to sign the music for his TV series. But when he retired, the Quebec filmmaker tried his luck with Hans Zimmer.

“In a way, it’s a plan B,” laughs Dolan. It’s a bit of a crazy story. Oddly enough, it was Sophie Lorain who said to me, “Have you thought about Hans Zimmer?” I replied to him, “Well no, let’s see, he’s definitely not available, he never will be.” Finally, Denis Villeneuve contacted us, I called him and he accepted.

“By working with him, I discovered an absolutely extraordinary person. He impressed me with his great generosity, passion, humor and passion. A friendship developed between us in a dazzling way. »

An expected series

The series The Night When Laurier Gaudreault Woke Up, an adaptation of Michel Marc Bouchard’s play of the same name, will be released on November 24 at Club illico. In addition to writing and directing the series, Xavier Dolan stars alongside Julie Le Breton, Éric Bruneau, Anne Dorval, Patrick Hivon and Magalie Lépine-Blondeau.

Divided into five hour-long episodes, the series follows a world-renowned thanatologist (camped by Julie Le Breton) who returns to her family to embalm her mother, only to find brothers she hasn’t seen in years. Old family secrets eventually surface.
