They warn of the increase in poverty in Uruguay

Marcelo Abdala, President of the Inter-Union Workers Plenary – National Workers Convention (PIT-CNT) Central Union of Uruguay, stressed on Monday that the South American nation is not only witnessing a rise in poverty rates but also in social inequality.

According to the union leader, the price of basic wicker products is rising in record time, which is why next May Day law will focus on reflection on social construction and measures against inequality and exclusion.

Given the situation, the company announced the holding of a dialogue between the Labor Party and Labor Minister Pablo Mieres to promote collective bargaining from July 1, given the possibility of an increase in the unemployment rate in the country.

“We want a meeting that addresses the issues of work, wages and prices that make up people’s lives worldwide and promote the ways in which they can consume,” said the President of the PIT-CNT.

He added that given the latent social inequality, an increase in inflation rates in the country is possible and stressed the need to dictate measures to meet the basic needs of the Uruguayan people.

“Work and wages are cogs that move the economy as a whole, so not only retirees will benefit from the July wage adjustments, but also the sectors where workers pay their wages,” the union leader said.
