The newspaper El Universal reported that a ‘public company will manage the metal used for the batteries from smartphones and electric cars. “The purpose of this initiative,” the document states, “is to ensure the selfdetermination of the nation, as well as the energy sovereignty of the people on the Lithium and other minerals strategic and necessary for the energy transitiontechnological innovation and national development”.
In the previous session, held on the night of April 17, the Mexican Legislature had rejected an initiative of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to change there constitutional law which regulates the activities of electrical area.
