MOSCOW, March 4 – Westerly flows of natural gas via the Yamal-Europe pipeline stalled on Friday, while Gazprom’s bids for additional transit capacity through Ukraine remain strong, data from pipeline operators show.

Flows to Germany through the Mallnow metering point were around 101,119 kilowatt hours (kWh/h) earlier Friday morning and were around 13.5 million kilowatt hours during the night.

Russian energy company Gazprom on Thursday resumed deliveries of natural gas westward via the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline to Germany from Poland and reserved 7.8 million kilowatt-hours of transit capacity through the pipeline from Friday morning to Saturday morning. More

The pipeline between Poland and Germany typically provides about 15% of Russian gas supplies westward to Europe and Turkey. However, since December it has been working in the opposite direction and leads to higher gas prices in Europe.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Russia will continue to supply gas to world markets even as the United States and its European allies are stepping up sanctions against Moscow following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. More
