World Bicycle Day encourages energy saving

Brussels, April 19 (Prensa Latina) Today’s celebration of World Bicycle Day is an added incentive for everyone to save energy, given the rising cost of fossil fuels.

Although the United Nations (UN) organization has announced this date for June 3rd, transport experts cannot ignore the fact that it is traditionally celebrated on April 19th.

The objective for each of the two accepted appointments is to promote the use of this sustainable, healthy and fun mode of transport and to raise awareness of cyclists’ rights, emphasizes the site diainternacionalde.com

Far from official, however, World Bicycle Day on April 19 has a curious history behind it.

The day refers to the year 1943 when Albert Hofmann (1906-2008, Baden, Switzerland), known as the father of lysergic acid (LSD), conducted an experiment in his laboratory in which he ingested 0.25 milligrams of this product to to see its effect and had to cycle home. This was because as a result of the war (World War II) movement in motor vehicles was not allowed. He had some troubles on this trip and ended up seeing the doctor, thinking the substance had poisoned him. After some effects, he began to feel joy and good feelings, and it ended well. The chemist had discovered a substance that he thought might have applications in the world of psychiatry because of its introspective effects, although he never thought it would be used recreationally.

But really, World Bicycle Day was first celebrated in 1985 in DeKalb, an American city in the state of Illinois.

In any case, one day it will be accepted, it is commendable to highlight this means of transport in the world for its benefits for health and human movement.
