A security official said the detonations came from a hand grenade. Local Taliban officials cordoned off the area and confiscated the cameras of some journalists.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. There have been several attacks west of the city in the recent past. The Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia has claimed a large share for itself. Bomb attacks near a school in May 2021 killed at least 85 civilians – mostly students – and injured dozens more.

In Afghanistan, girls are only allowed to go to school until they are 14 years old. They are prohibited from continuing their studies in high school. That is why there are repeated protests and counter-actions by Islamic radicals.

Recently, there have been several attacks in western Kabul, where many members of the Shia Hasara live. The Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia claimed responsibility for most of the attacks. Sunni extremists consider Shias to be apostates from the true faith, even though they are also Muslims.
