In Kyiv, despite the bombings on the outskirts of the capital on Monday, April 18, residents are trying to return to their former lives. Some shops have reopened and a children’s performance at the theater is sold out.
A theater in the heart of Kyiv reopened its doors on Monday, April 18. For the first time since the war began, residents are trying to reconnect with joy. Sunday is a children’s show in the theater. “It’s a strange feeling coming back here. It’s hard for me to describe it to you,” says a father. “I’m happy to see stories on stage, I feel calm coming here,” said one girl.
Bombing has resumed in recent days, but on the outskirts of the capital. The Russian soldiers withdrew from the area, so the residents dared to come. The room is crowded, the desire to distract yourself is too strong. Only there are no more parts in Russian, they are exclusively in Ukrainian. “It’s very important to create those moments of peace,” says director Olga Gavrilyuk. The resumption of activity in the city is slow, gradual but clearly visible. Families are crowding back into the city center. Some are returning to Kyiv, although it is discouraged. However, only a few companies have resumed their activities. The Russian threat is always present.
