HAVANA, Nov 24 (ACN) Cuba today reiterated its support for efforts towards a more just and sustainable Iberoamerica at the Extraordinary Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Iberoamerica, held in virtual format, chaired by the Dominican Republic.
As reported by the chancellery Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the Cuban delegation that attended the meeting and highlighted on her website how it was possible to maintain the vitality of the Iberoamerican Conference and the continuity of its areas of cooperation, also in the context of coping and recovery from the effects of COVID-19.
The official classified the celebration of the XXVIII. Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State or Government, hosted by the Dominican Republic on March 25, 2023, as an opportune framework to take stock of the work and agree on new goals.
Vidal Ferreiro confirmed his country’s commitment to the regional event while announcing his active and constructive participation in the negotiations on the initiatives that will emerge at the event.
A priority for Cuba is that the summit reaffirm its firm position opposing the illegal and criminal economic, trade and financial blockade imposed by the United States, he said.
The diplomat thanked the Ibero-American countries for their support in voting on the resolution condemning the blockade, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on November 3.
He expressed interest that the Ibero-American Summit once again opposes the elaboration of unilateral and arbitrary lists and certifications related to terrorism, used as a means of political and economic coercion affecting the Ibero-American nations.
The Ibero-American Conference is an inclusive space for cooperation composed of 22 Spanish and Portuguese speaking Latin American and Iberian countries. Cuba has been part of this mechanism since its inception in 1991, the Foreign Ministry stressed.
