“With burgers this good, leave your kids at home. What’s the worst that could happen,” read one of the company’s social media announcements.
The election sparked outrage among users. ASA (The Advertising Standards Authority) said it had received several complaints, asking social media platforms Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to remove posts and suspend accounts. The company knew the ads had been removed and would no longer appear (but one of the ads is still appearing on Facebook).
“I don’t care if people are offended by these ad campaigns. A while ago I put out one that made a lot of money. And I thought why not do it again?” Joe Scholey, owner of the company, told Leeds Live. company, which is not new to this type of advertising campaign.
