A$AP Rocky, who is expecting his first child with girlfriend Rihanna, was arrested in connection with a November 2021 shooting.
The 33-year-old rapper, real name Rakim Mayers, landed on a private plane at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday after vacationing with Rihanna in her native Barbados. The singer was then promptly apprehended by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Squad with the assistance of the Homeland Security Investigations Team at Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
According to an LAPD press release, the “F***in’ Problems” singer’s arrest is related to a November 6 shooting in Hollywood, near the intersection of Selma and Argyle Avenues. Around 10:20 p.m. that evening, there was an argument “between two acquaintances” in the busy area in front of the W Hollywood Hotel and an Equinox gym. According to police, things escalated and the suspect – Rocky – allegedly fired a gun at the unidentified victim, who suffered minor injuries. Rocky allegedly fled the scene with two other men.
According to police, Rocky was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. The case is now before the Los Angeles District Attorney.
It’s unclear if Rihanna, who is in her third trimester, was on the private plane with Rocky when he was taken into police custody. Rocky’s publicist did not immediately respond to Yahoo Entertainment’s request for comment.
A$AP Rocky has had several legal battles before, most notably he was jailed for assault in Sweden in 2019.
