The next part of NatGeo’s Genius franchise will follow two themes: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, and therefore entitled Genius: MLK/X.
“Season four will explore the formative years, pioneering achievements, dueling philosophies and important personal relationships of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X,” reads the official description. “While King promoted racial equality through nonviolent protest, Malcolm X championed black empowerment, identity and self-determination. With their formidable wives Coretta Scott King and Betty Shabazz at their side, King and Malcolm X became synonymous with the civil rights era and the fight for racial and economic justice. Although they only met once and often questioned each other’s views, neither would have been as successful without the other.”
Reggie Rock Bythewood (Swagger, Shots Fired) and Gina Prince-Bythewood (Shots Fired, Love & Basketball) will join the series as executive producers, while Raphael Jackson, Jr. and Damione Macedon (The Mosquito Coast, Power) will serve as showrunners , with Jeff Stetson (Shots Fire, Containment) writing the pilot.
The new season, like all following ones, will premiere on Disney+.
