Sylvain Desmarais lost his life when his helicopter exploded in mid-air.

Adding to the drama, it was the family who were given the delicate task of recovering the plane’s fuselage and trying to locate the pilot’s camera, which could contain valuable information.

Mr. Desmarais frequently flew over the skies of Lefebvre and the surrounding area in his home-built helicopter.

With the help of friends, the family combed the crime scene looking for the victim’s personal belongings, including his pilot’s license, but also and most importantly a small “Go Pro” camera that the 64-year-old had used to film his flights.

Over dinner, the camera was finally found by a family friend, Kathy Sirois.

Family members hope it was operational, and if so, that the material it contained could allow investigators with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada to learn a little more about the circumstances of the crash.
