Inside Nebraska confirmed this linebacker Ernest Hausmann, recipient The coldest Crawford and offensive lineman Brant Banks entered the transfer portal.
Additionally, Inside Nebraska experienced this kicker Gabe Hein entered the transfer portal on Wednesday.
Hausmann is perhaps the most surprising and notable Husker to enter the transfer portal to date.
It looks like a hard blow to the future of Nebraska’s defense. The real freshman linebacker appeared in all 12 games for the Huskers this season. He totaled 54 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. He started in six of the Huskers’ 12 games this season, including starts in the last four games of the season, and he played in 474 of a possible 933 snaps for the Nebraska defense. That includes playing 139 snaps out of 145 in the last two games as he watched his stocks soar in the second half of the season.
In early November, Hausmann spoke about the adjustments he made to college football after being selected earlier in the season.
“Every week there are many new things that are presented to me, of course as a real newcomer and how different offenses attack us,” said Hausmann. “Having a better understanding of each defensive call and knowing where the offense is going to attack us has really helped me and allowed me to play faster.”
The member of the 2022 recruiting class was a Columbus High School candidate. He became one of the gems of this recruiting class after the Huskers won his signature over Iowa, Michigan, Kansas State and others. After showing what he can do in a Husker uniform this season, he’ll have a lot of options on the table to choose from.
Crawford, a three-star recruit in the Class of 2022, signed with the Huskers after a long commitment to LSU. He succeeded the former Tigers assistant Mickey Joseph to Lincoln and signed as the Huskers’ sixth highest recruit in the cycle.
However, the true freshman receiver suffered a severe setback when he sustained a serious right knee injury during the final scrum at fall camp. He wasn’t expected to see much play time as a true freshman as a handful of other receivers on the depth chart would likely be ahead of him. But his first-year development and ability to contribute early were wiped out as a result of the injury.
Banks, like Hausmann and Crawford, was also a three-star recruit outside of the high school ranks. The offensive lineman has chosen Nebraska over other top options like Baylor and Missouri. Banks was in his fourth season in Nebraska but is a sophomore on the Huskers’ roster. He appeared on the offensive line in 13 games in his sophomore and third seasons and played in 53 of a possible 783 snaps for the Husker offensive line
Heins spent four seasons in Nebraska after joining the Huskers as a walk-on as part of the Class of 2019 at Kearney (Neb.) High School. He did not appear in any games in his four years with the program.
The transfer portal will not open nationwide until December 5th. However, players in programs going through a head coach change will be given 30 days to enter the portal. When Scott Frost was fired, players had a 30-day window to enter the portal, and now that Matt Rhule has been hired, Nebraska players will have another 30-day window to enter the portal.
