A 16-year-old boy woke up after being in a coma for nine months; However, he still has a few weeks of recovery ahead of him. The young man regained consciousness after a terrible accident that left him with serious injuries and a brain trauma that left him bedridden.
The event occurred when Angel Figueroa He was riding his skateboard home from school in Hemet, California on February 28th. Suddenly a group of young people pushed him near Stetson Avenue. Figueroa was hit by a white Tesla and had to be taken to the hospital.
The minor had part of his skull removed and is currently recovering. His family remains optimistic and hopes for a speedy recovery. Belki Brizuela, the minor’s aunt, was raising funds to cover the minor’s medical bills; With that in mind, he managed to raise more than $32,000.
“I couldn’t tell, it was so swollen,” Brizuela told KNBC. “And bruises and cuts all over the place… I can’t understand it. Why? You know what was the reason for doing what you know?” he added.
The youths linked to the crime, three aged 15 and one aged 16, were arrested in March. Whoever pushed Figueroa spent six months in juvenile detention, while the others were sentenced to house arrest.
Brizuela, via the GoFundMe platform, reported on the young man’s improvement, who can already move one leg: “I can tell he’s out of a coma, he wakes up and moves the left side of his body. He started therapy to stimulate his brain more.”
The accident also changed the life of Ángel and the whole family: “Since the incident, my family’s whole life has changed, including financially. My sister and I missed work because of Angel, court visits and we can’t catch up on our bills,” Belki said.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the minor, 52, stayed at the scene to provide assistance. Local media reported that the man was not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and was cooperating with the investigation. Also, he has not been charged at the moment.
