Israel Air Force fires on Hamas targets in Gaza after rocket attack

Following a rocket attack from the Gaza Strip, Israel’s air force fired on targets in Palestinian territory late on Sunday. A rocket workshop of the Islamist Hamas organization that governs the Gaza Strip and a Hamas tunnel in the southern part of the coastal strip were hit, he said. Fighter jets were fired from the Gaza Strip and a military post in the Mediterranean area was attacked.

A few hours earlier, Palestinian militants fired a rocket from the Gaza Strip into the area bordering Israel for the first time in about a month. According to the Israeli army, there were no casualties or damage. It was initially unclear which group was responsible for the attack on southern Israel. The Palestinian militant organization Islamic Jihad has threatened Israel with retaliation after an army operation in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, killed two of its fighters on Thursday. More recently, several rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel in early November.

Violence has risen sharply in recent months, particularly in the West Bank. After deadly attacks in Israel in March and April, the Israeli army has carried out numerous incursions into Palestinian territory, often resulting in clashes. According to the UN, at least 145 Palestinians and 26 Israelis have been killed this year.
