Fired from CNN, Marcela Rahal even fought with a colleague backstage 12/04/2022

After three years, journalist Marcela Rahal announced her departure from CNN this week. The channel started the month promoting mass layoffs. The journalist was fired from the channel along with the likes of Sidney Rezende, Monalisa Perrone, Leandro Karnal and Gloria Vanique. The channel also closed the newsroom in Rio de Janeiro.

Marcela posted on Twitter: “Today I say goodbye to a project that I saw born. I joined CNN with a proposal to cover politics in SP and became an anchor of a newspaper that dared its format. To bring informal, light and hard news. A challenging diary. An immense pride. Thank you for the opportunity and your impeccable company”.

Marcela came to CNN as a street reporter and has become a presenter for Live CNN in recent years. The journalist was called in to replace Mari Palma, who left the program to pursue talk show CNN Tonight.

Until September of this year, Marcela shared the TV kiosk with Daniel Adjuto, who was fired from the station after a backstage argument with her. CNN claimed the presenter’s departure was due to “inappropriate behavior toward a colleague.”

Before joining the station’s team, Marcela had a brief stint at Jovem Pan where she presented Jovem Pan Agora, a news program that aired on the radio’s YouTube channel.

After graduating in journalism from the Universidade Metodista de São Paulo, Marcela started her career at Radio Band News, where she also met her husband, journalist Rafael Colombo, with whom she has a daughter. The two met on a shift. At that time she was a producer, he was the head of reporting.

The two were invited to CNN at the same time in 2019. Rafael heads CNN Novo Dia alongside Elisa Veeck.

In an interview with Veja São Paulo, Marcela reported that the couple’s biggest fear was presenting a news program together because they feared the work would affect their relationship. “We got to present a shift on CNN once, but the initial awkwardness passed quickly and it was great,” he said.

Marcela was also a reporter for UOL, where she worked for about three years. On television, in addition to the program Eco Record News Amazônia, it also appeared on Record News, in the news programs Hora News and Link News.
