Italians spend an average of 30 years, 5 months and 19 days of their lives online. This is more than a third of the average life expectancy, which is 82 years in our country. In practice, they stay connected for 61 hours every week, almost three days. A third of this time is spent on work, the rest on various online activities, among which the time spent on TV streaming platforms stands out. This is the result of a survey by the virtual network service NordVpn with a sample between 18 and 64 years of age.
Globally, we are in sixth place in this particular ranking: Taiwan, Korea, Mexico, Brazil and Hong Kong overtake us at the top, on average more than 44 years of life are spent online. For Italians, being online 61 hours a week means 132 days a year and actually 30.5 years of life.
Of this, almost 21 hours are spent at work and more than 40 hours are spent on various online activities. However, the majority of Italians’ weekly time, 7 hours and 44 minutes, is spent on TV streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video. 7 hours and 14 minutes, on the other hand, are the hours allotted to social media like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Another 4 hours and 44 minutes per week is spent watching videos, for example on YouTube, while 4 hours and 38 minutes are spent listening to music on Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud and similar platforms. In addition, 3 hours and 16 minutes per week are spent on research, 2 hours and 26 minutes on e-commerce and a further 2 hours and 13 minutes on administration and online banking services.
