SOFIA, 4th November (RHC) – Bulgarian citizens took to the streets of this capital the day before to protest against the policies of the European Union, which was in favor of maintaining the Bulgarian national currency (lev) and against the introduction of the euro in 2024.
The demonstrators carried Bulgarian flags and banners with messages like “I choose the levy”, “No to the euro” and “I choose Bulgarian sovereignty”.
The demonstrators believe that with the introduction of the euro, Bulgaria will lose the ability to determine its own monetary policy and believe that the introduction of the European currency could lead to further impoverishment of the Bulgarian people.
The action, which took place in front of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, was organized by the Renaissance political party. The formation announced that it would collect signatures to organize a referendum to decide whether the country would adopt the euro or not, BTA agency reports. (Source/RT)
