“Today they do nothing useful”

In an interview, Cuban actor Luis Rielo, founder of the legendary CMQ Television studio, recalled the times when the Espacio Aventuras occupied a privileged place among children and adults.

The 88-year-old veteran actor, known to viewers as the “villain in adventures,” questioned the way people work today in an interview.

“It was a phenomenon that cannot be repeated because there is no going back. If they invent a time machine one day, you will be able to see what happened back then. Sometimes I think about the adventures and nostalgia overcomes me,” he explained before the Tribuna de La Habana.

As he recounted, the transmission of space began in 1954. Two years later, in the adventure Carlos Valiente, he played his first negative character: a silent assassin named Marcus. It was the beginning of a saga with more than a thousand contrasting roles that won him the love of the public and the respect of the directors.

“The shooting has always taken place outdoors, mainly in rural areas. The audience was very loving and respected the actors. It was difficult to have problems with the residents of the shooting location. People were happy when we recorded at their homes. We were the viewer’s family,” he explained.

About the recording process, Rielo emphasized that they are all good companions: “There were no differences between actors and extras. We shared an interest in getting good results.”

“When Adventures ended, in the first decade of the 2000s, part of my career ended. It was the area where I worked the most with 37 series. At that time the programs went down and aren’t doing anything useful today. Now Cuban television is missing a lot, it needs rigor and seriousness at work,” he said.

That Experienced Actor, National Television Award 2019She questioned the presence in the midst of inexperienced actors.

“I feel sorry for you because They don’t speak well, they don’t project well, and they don’t transmit the same thing. You need directors who know how to direct actors, not just cameras. A few days ago I saw a chapter of Tras la huella and said to my wife Ena: “I don’t know anymore who killed and who stole because I didn’t understand anyone.” he revealed.

Lately Luis Rielo received the Marta Jiménez Oropesa award given by the artistic agency ‘ACTUAR’ and the National Council of Performing Arts to relevant figures in culture in Cuba.

“What I’m suffering from is that I can’t carry on like I used to. I am almost 89 years old and I will never stop working as an actor because an old man is always needed. although scripts are no longer being written for these characters in Cuba,” he said.

Some of the adventures he participated in include El Zorro, Los Konsomoles, El lobo blanco, Los Vikingos, El Jaguar, Los pequeños refugees, La Isla del Tesoro, La Capitana del Caribe, the Hawk and memories of a grandfather, among many others.
