Tesla’s smaller, two-door Cybertruck design hid in plain sight – TESLARATI

The design for the smaller variant of the Tesla Cybertruck seems to be hiding in plain sight. As recently spotted by some eagle-eyed electric vehicle enthusiasts, Tesla has displayed a rather interesting version of its futuristic all-electric pickup in its exhibition at the Petersen Automotive Museum.

The Tesla exhibit at the Petersen Museum is comprehensive as it highlights the history of the company and the products and innovations that have helped Tesla become a dominant force in the electric vehicle sector over the years. As an upcoming vehicle that caused a lot of excitement, the Tesla Cybertruck featured heavily in the exhibition. Tesla chief designer Franz von Holzhausen was even interviewed in the Cybertruck section.

Included in the Cybertruck section of the exhibit was a sketch of the vehicle that was set up near the futuristic pickup truck. The sketch is particularly interesting as it depicts a pickup truck that is a little different from the massive Cybertruck prototype unveiled in late 2019 or the updated Alpha Cybertruck units later spotted in California. Unlike Tesla’s prototypes, the vehicle in the sketch was a two-door cybertruck.

A few things stand out in the sketch of the two-door Cybertruck. On the one hand, the vehicle appears more compact than the Cybertruck prototypes previously built by Tesla. Its cabin still feels spacious and airy thanks to the long windshield and short hood. Its cargo bed, also covered by a tonneau, also looks capable of hauling plenty of cargo despite the vehicle’s seemingly more compact size.

The two-door Cybertruck design seen in the sketch at the Petersen Automotive Museum has received many positive responses from the Tesla community, with some noting that they actually prefer the more compact look of the all-electric pickup. Luckily, the idea of Tesla releasing a smaller Cybertruck in the future isn’t far-fetched at all.

Elon Musk himself has said this so many times in the past. After unveiling the original Cybertruck prototype in late 2019, Musk was asked on Twitter if Tesla would be willing to develop a more compact version of the Cybertruck later. Musk responded positively to the request, noting, “Long term, it probably makes sense to build a smaller Cybertruck as well.” If such a vehicle looks anything like the two-door Cybertruck sketch, then Tesla would likely have another bestseller in its lineup.

The two-door Cybertruck sketch was featured in several parts of Franz von Holzhausen’s CNBC interview at the Petersen Museum. A video of the interview can be viewed below.
